Vicar: Rev Tom Coopey

“I’m married to Susie. We have four children and we moved to Weymouth to lead St John’s Church at the end of 2016. I love living by the beach, swimming in the sea, kayaking in the bay and cycling around the stunning Dorset countryside. I’ll also rarely say no to a cup of tea! Before being ordained in 2013 I was a Youth Pastor in Weymouth and still have a strong commitment to developing a thriving youth ministry here. I love to see people of all ages coming to know Jesus, growing in faith and following God passionately. Following Jesus is a great adventure and it’s a privilege to be part of this church family as we work together to serve our community.”

Children and Families Leader: Susie Coopey

“I’m married to Tom and we have lived in Weymouth for almost 5 years, with our 4 children. I love working with children and their families and we are committed to making St John’s Church friendly and welcoming to all. I run Little Fishes, our parent and toddler group and head up our Sunday morning Kids Church. In my spare time I love walking by the sea and playing netball, but also watching rubbish TV in my pjs, preferably with a big bar of Cadburys!!”

Church Warden: Jos Bailey

“As Church Warden I help with the day to day running of the Church. I also help lead the Ignite youth group and the Sound Desk team. Elliott and I moved to Weymouth at the end of 2017 after living and working in Italy. We try to make the most of living in Dorset by spending time at the beach and exploring the countryside on walks with our dog Barney.”

Church Warden: Pete Evans-Jones

“I moved down to Weymouth in 1983 with my wife Shirley and joined StJohn’s. My involvement has included being a Campaigner chief, jointly hosting a home group with Shirley, carrying out various practical jobs around the church, being Hope House treasurer, as well as leading the worship team with Shirley. My interests include music (obviously!), sailing our boat in the bay and doing lots of home improvements.”

Lay Minister: Shirley Evans-Jones

“My husband Pete and I moved down to Weymouth from London in the early 1980s to run a seafront hotel in partnership with the rest of my family. I subsequently went back into working in social housing, which I had done before our two boys were born. I was licensed as a Lay minister in 2006, and my responsibilities include preaching and leading services on a regular basis. I have also been involved for many years alongside Pete in running the Church music group, and I lead a Home Group. In my leisure time I love walking in the Dorset countryside, and also sailing our boat out into Weymouth Bay where we can see the Church standing out as a prominent landmark on the seafront!”

Parish Administrator: Trudy Dickson

I’ve been part of St John’s with my family since the end of 2019 when we felt led by God and took a huge step of faith in moving down from Leicester. I’m married to Graham and we have two wonderful children who are fast growing up! As the Parish Administrator, no two days are ever the same; this keeps me on my toes! I run a Life Group with Graham which we really enjoy. I love art, drawing & painting (when I have some free time!) the beach, beautiful scenery, walks, and anything sweet and chocolatey!
